Fleetwood Mac – 1982 – Mirage Studio Outtakes

Posted in Fleetwood Mac on February 10, 2008 by freemusic07

Fleetwood Mac are an influential and commercially successful rock band formed in 1967 who have had high turnover of personnel and varied levels of success. From the band’s inception through the end of 1974, no incarnation of Fleetwood Mac lasted as much as two years.
The only member in the band from the beginning is its namesake drummer Mick Fleetwood. Bassist John McVie, despite his giving part of his name to the band, did not play on their first single nor at their first concerts. Keyboardist Christine McVie has, to date, appeared on all but two albums, either as a member or as a session musician.
The two most successful periods for the band were: during the late 60s British blues boom, when they were led by guitarist Peter Green, and from 1975-87, with the rock band that consisted of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. (Wikipedia)
Following a hiatus of over a year since the completion of the worldwide “Tusk” tour, the band then temporarily relocated to France to record the album, by which time both Nicks and Buckingham had each achieved solo success. “Mirage” spawned the hit singles “Hold Me” (which reached #4 on the US Billboard pop charts), “Gypsy” (#12), “Love In Store” (#22), and “Oh Diane” which reached #9 in the UK.

Chicago – Some Albums

Posted in Chicago on February 7, 2008 by freemusic07

Chicago is a rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois as a cover band called The Big Thing. Upon release of their first record in early 1969, the band took a new name, Chicago Transit Authority. Soon after the first album’s release, the band’s name was shortened to simply Chicago, when the actual Chicago Transit Authority threatened legal action.
The band began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental rock band and later moved to a softer sound, becoming famous for producing a number of hit ballads. They had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Second only to the Beach Boys, Chicago, in terms of singles and albums, is one of the longest running and most successful U.S. pop/rock and roll groups. According to Billboard, Chicago was the leading U.S. singles charting group during the 1970s.

The Edgar Broughton Band – 1973 – Oora

Posted in The Edgar Broughton Band on February 6, 2008 by freemusic07

The Edgar Broughton Band, founded in 1968 in Warwick, England, is an English progressive rock group.
The band started their career as a blues group under the name of The Edgar Broughton Blues Band, playing to a dedicated but limited following in the region around their hometown of Warwick. However, when the band began to lean towards the emerging psychedelic movement, dropping the ‘Blues’ from their name as well as their music.
The Broughtons’ political views were anarchist and anti-establishment. Edgar Broughton said their aim was “subverting what’s above”. Songs such as “Out, Demons Out!” and their many appearances at free concerts made the Edgar Broughton Band popular on the radical fringe. They are sometimes thought of as “punk before it was punk” – Edgar Broughton declared their stance to be “we’re The Broughtons, we’re going to play, what are you going to do about it?”. They played outside the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 as a protest against ticket prices.

The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles by vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger. Since the band’s dissolution in the early 1970s — and especially since Morrison’s death in 1971 — interest in the Doors’ music has remained high. They have sold over 76 million albums worldwide, and still sell approximately 1 million annually.

The Byrds – 1969 – Ballad Of Easy Rider

Posted in The Byrds on February 6, 2008 by freemusic07

The Byrds (formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1964) were an American rock band.
The Byrds were popular and influential through the 1960s and early 1970s.
Critic Richie Unterberger declares The Byrds’ most enduring contribution was “melding the innovations and energy of the British Invasion with the best lyrical and musical elements of contemporary folk music,” but they also helped forge such subgenres as folk rock, space rock, raga rock, psychedelic rock, jangle pop, and, on their 1968 album Sweetheart of the Rodeo, country rock. After several line-up changes (with lead singer/guitarist Roger McGuinn as the only consistent member), they broke up in 1973.
Ballad of Easy Rider is the eighth album from The Byrds, released in October of 1969 on Columbia Records
